What is skin cancer, types, treatments?



Skin cancer starts in the cells of the skin. some other types of cancer start in other parts of the body and can spread to the skin, but these are not skin cancers.

There are 3 main types of skin cancers:
  1. Basal cell skin cancers (basal cell carcinomas).
  2. Squamous cell skin cancers (squamous cell carcinomas).
  3. Melanomas.

What is basal cell carcinoma?

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a type of skin cancer that begins in the basal cells. Normal basal cells line the epidermis. they are the skin cells that replace old cells with new ones. Cancer of the basal cells results in tumors that appear on the skin's surface. these tumors often look like sores, growths, bumps, scars, or red patches.
 
While BCC almost never spreads to other places in the body (metastasizes), it can still result in disfigurement. in rare cases, it can spread to other parts of the body. if it does, it can become life-threatening.

What is squamous cell skin cancer?

Squamous cell carcinoma: cancer that begins in squamous cells thin, flat cells that look under the microscope like fish scales. squamous cells are found in the tissue that forms the surface of the skin, the living of hollow organs of the body, and the passages of the respiratory and digestive tracts. squamous cells carcinomas may arise in any of these tissues.

What is Melanomas.

Melanoma is usually, but not always, a cancer of skin. it begins in melanocytes - the cells that produce the pigment melanin that colors the skin, hair and eyes. melanocytes also form moles, where melanoma often develops. Having moles can be a risk factor for melanoma, but it's important to remember that most moles do not become melanoma.

What are the Treatment for skin cancer?

Most skin cancers are detected and cured before they spread. Melanoma that has spread to other organs presents the greatest treatment challenge.

Standard treatment for localized basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas are safe and effective and cause few side effects. small tumors can be surgically excised, removed with skin scraping and electric current cauterization, frozen with liquid nitrogen, or killed with low dose radiation, chemotherapy and surgery etc.
